Race 7 of the 2016 Pirelli GT3 Cup USA Trophy saw Dino Crescentini claiming overall victory. The changing weather conditions posed a real challenge for the racers. The day began as cloudy and cool. It was only during the 50-minute race that the sun came out and warmed the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca track considerably for the racers. The earlier part of the race saw several of the championship contenders dropping out.
The race saw Crescentini taking the green flag from the pole position. Throughout the race, he managed to keep his No. 34 Porsche 991 GT3 Cup car ahead of the other race cars. He was chased vehemently by Competition Motorsports’ David Calvert-Jones, but never got an opportunity to catch up with him or get ahead of him. However, he managed to finish ahead of championship leader Robert Todd’s No. 52 (BR Racing team), who came in the 3rd position.
After the race, Crescentini said that he is really happy for the team, which included his son and his friends. The whole race has been challenging. All through the race, he managed to keep his cool, and that strategy worked.
The victory was claimed in the Platinum Class by Phil Fogg Jr. He started on the class pole and managed to keep his TruSpeed Autosport Porsche (No. 05) ahead. Tom Haacker’s TruSpeed Porsche took the second place. The third place was claimed by Jim Walsh’s BR Racing Porsche.
Fogg Jr, after the victory, said that the race has been pretty unique to him. It was last year October that he last drove a car. During the race, he just focused on driving smooth and clean. The car evolved pretty quickly to match the weather conditions. He said that there is no need to make any future changes to the car since it is a perfect car in every way.
