The online magazine, Japanese Nostalgic Car, in partnership with Mazda, has announced the Third Annual “Touge” or road rally this summer in Southern California. The road rally will feature Japanese vintage cars and Mazda will participate with several of its vehicles from the Mazda Heritage Collection. “Touge” in Japanese means “Mountain Pass” and the road rally on July 15 will wind through Southern California’s mountainous roads, starting and ending in Irvine.
50th Anniversary Of Mazda’s Wankel Rotary Engine
A recent press release from Inside Mazda reveals that the road rally showcasing vintage Japanese vehicles will also feature Mazda’s first sports car, the Cosmo Sport 110S. This marks the 50th Anniversary of the sports car that was the first to introduce the Wankel rotary engine. The Wankel rotary engine was the start of many technological advances by Mazda. The Wankel rotary engines were quite popular, and globally, Mazda sold more than one million cars equipped with the rotary engine. Although none of the models in Mazda’s current lineup feature a rotary engine, it’s entirely within the realm of possibility that Mazda may be working on future designs to feature a rotary engine again.
