How “Driving Matters” Drives Mazda

CardinaleWay mazda - Corona 2_DrivingMatters

Mazda has been busy this year. With the launch of the CX-3 compact crossover this fall, the debut of the CX-9 three-row crossover, and the launch of a new campaign, “Driving Matters”, it appears that the Japanese automaker is lining up to deliver new product stories. Russel Wager, VP of marketing for Mazda North American operations, posits that “Driving Matters” as a slogan is not talking about specific vehicles, but rather about reasons why you should be a part of the Mazda family. The first ad in the campaign was “Driver’s Life”, which follows a kid who grows up in a Miata, gets married, has his own child, send said child to college, then gets back into the new Miata MX-5. The other ad was for the CX-5, with a storyline focused on safety. Next, we will see a new ad focusing on all-wheel-drive. It begins with a young couple heading out into a snowstorm, in their CX-5. The man puts the crossover into AWD, and makes it to the perfect spot to spring his surprise on his lady. Wager says that the campaign strives to cultivate owner loyalty, inviting people into the family. By design, Wager says, the target buyer is absolutely a car lover. “We want to sell cars to people who want to love our cars, not who are buying for the deal…rather than constantly conquest, we want to focus on getting loyalty up.” Stop into CardinaleWay Mazda in Corona, for a look at the all-new CX-5 today. And experience for yourself the thrill of why “driving matters”.

The 2015 Cooper Tires Prototype Lites Powered by Mazda championship comes to an end, with CSU Fullerton student winning 11 of 14 races. Kenton Koch, 21 year old business student, has put nearly every racing notch conceivable in his belt. In 2014, he won the Battery Tender MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires. The Skip Barber MAZDASPEED Pro Challenge in 2012 and 2013 were also his. And Koch was a finalist for the Team USA and Mazda Road to 24 shootout programs, and the US representative in the FIA Institute Young Driver Excellence Academy. 2016 Mazda CX-3 Recognized for Drivability, Affordability in Winter Weather

Tuesday, December 22nd, 2015

CardinaleWay Mazda - Corona 2_CX3snow

Axlegeeks.com recently tested 15 new vehicles to identify those with the best control on snowy adventures. Vehicles on the list, which is ranked from most to least expensive, ranged in cost from $18,295 to $30,000. The CX-3 crossover has a starting MSRP of $21,210: perfect for those who can’t compromise performance and style in the face of budget. The all-new crossover is equipped with the i-ACTIV all-wheel-drive system, which monitors road conditions and transfers power accordingly, to prevent wheel slip. Car and Driver called it a “fun and feisty runabout with a can-do attitude”. The sporty suspension and low center of gravity aid in the CUV’s handling in winter weather. And with an elegant exterior that perfectly complements the serene and sophisticated interior, performance and design are truly within reach. The 2016 CX-3 boasts a combined mpg of 28, and is ranked #1 in the Subcompact Crossover segment by Car and Driver. If you’re looking for the handling of an SUV with the styling (and budget) of a compact car, look no further than the 2016 Mazda CX-3, now available at CardinaleWay Mazda in Corona.

Mazda Rotary Engine Gives Bugatti Veyron Run for Money

Wednesday, December 16th, 2015

CardinaleWay Mazda - Corona 2_RX7vBugatti

Racing enthusiasts are anxiously anticipating the release of Mazda’s new RX-2, featuring a revival of the Wankel rotary engine. The significance of the RX-2 signals more than the rebirth of an old technology – it marks a revolution in turbo engines. Even Ferrari doesn’t make a forced induction engine for its LaFerrari, and the Bugatti Veyron, with its quad-turbo engines, is simply unattainable for the masses. With the rotary engine, all turbochargers are laid out on one side, marking a new kind of quartet of blowing instruments. For international racing enthusiasts, this was first seen in the 1970’s, with the Mazda Capella Rotary (in Japan), the Mazda RX-2 in New Zealand, and the Mazda 616 in the U.S. Last December, a modified Mazda RX-7, with LS-swapped twin-turbo, raced the king of turbo supercars, the Bugatti Veyron. As if an early Christmas present to delight Mazda racing enthusiasts, the RX-7 smoked the $2.25 million Veyron. Check out the race here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_uSghj9DOI. So does the return of the rotary engine signal Mazda’s commitment to continue delighting its racing constituency? Look no further than its motto, “Driving Matters”. But the Japanese automaker is more than just a fun way to get from A to B. The company believes in community and philanthropy, too. During the Mazda Drive For Good event, through January 4th, every test drive earns one hour of Mazda-donated community service to a local charity. And every new Mazda purchased in the same timeframe will merit $150 donated to the charity of your choice. For more info, stop by CardinaleWay Mazda in Corona.

Mazda’s Koeru Concept Boldly Takes on Outback

Wednesday, December 16th, 2015

CardinaleWay Mazda - Mesa 1_KoeruConcept

The Koeru, Mazda’s latest concept car, debuted in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show. CEO Masamichi Kogai notes that the concept is “unrelated to anything in (Mazda’s) current portfolio.” Recognizing that the SUV/crossover segment is growing a rapid clip, Mazda’s leader said of the Kogai, “It’s a lower, sporty SUV…close to a wagon. (The Keoru) aims to generate more driving pleasure.” With its low-profile and five-door layout, the sporty crossover/wagon will be an alternative to the CX-5 and CS-3. Kogai references the Koeru’s similarity to the Subaru Outback, confirming it will be in “that kind of genre.” Noting the popularity of the Outback in a recent article, Autoblog.com mentions the Outback as “one of those automotive bogeys that competitors seek to imitate but never quite capture.” Yet Mazda is well-positioned to unseat the Subaru Outback in more than just exterior styling. Shape sells, even if performance or actual utility remains unchanged. That said, with its motto, “Driving Matters”, Mazda is unlikely to debut such a departure from its current lineup, based on sheer looks alone. The Koeru, anticipated to hit the market with the revived CX-7 name, will join a family of award-winning CUVs and SUVs that are known for enhancing the driving experience in both form and function. Mazda Debuts Four 2016 Global MX-5 Cup Cars at Thunderhill

Wednesday, December 16th, 2015

CardinaleWay Mazda - Corona 2_MX-5CupCars

In Willows, California, on the historic Thunderhill racetrack, Mazda recently debuted four of its all-new 2016 Global MX-5 Cup cars, in the rigorous 25 Hours of Thunderhill race. Consisting of 33 and one third 45-minute Battery Tender MX-5 Cup races, almost 8,000 total miles was completed among the four cars. John Doonan, Mazda’s motorsports director, noted, “While not as well-known as the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the NASA 25 Hours at Thunderhill is just as tough on equipment.” He continued to say that, “With over 70 orders for the new car, we wanted a way to further showcase the quality, durability, and reliability of the race car in true Mazda fashion. Our drivers were Mazda employees and dealers. Our pit crew was made up 100% by volunteers, mainly Mazda employees taking vacation time to do this. ‘Driving Matters’ isn’t just a slogan; it’s a way of life for Mazda. Thanks to everyone at Robert Davis Racing, Long Road racing, Mothers, BFGoodrich Tires, and everyone else who helped make this a success. Having Mazda class winners in both E2 and E3 made for an especially great weekend.” The MX-5 Cup cars are intentionally overclassed into the “E0” class, so as not to compete with other Mazda teams. They competed against a mix of BMW and Nissan teams, with the goal of real-world testing of miles and reliability in competition. Much of the action occurred in the pouring rain, thus performance in wet weather was tested. Drivers frequently noted that the wet runs were “fun” and that the car was “magic” on the BFG rain tires. In fact, the MX-5 lapped the other cars in the heaviest rain. To check out the all-new 2016 MX-5 Miata, be sure to visit the friendly team at CardinaleWay Mazda in Corona. And remember that during the Drive For Good event, through January 4th, every test drive earns one hour of local community service from Mazda, and every new Mazda purchased earns $150 donated to the charity of your choice.

Confetti Foundation Receives $30,000 Gift from Mazda

Thursday, December 10th, 2015

CardinaleWay Mazda - Corona 2 mazda drive for good

Mazda’s third annual Drive For Good campaign, in partnership with NBC Universal, donated $30k to the Confetti Foundation. The foundation delivers personalized gift boxes to kids who are hospitalized on their birthday. Founded by Stephanie Frazier Grimm in 2010 when her best friend’s baby was born 8 weeks premature with complications, the Confetti Foundation is the result of a caring woman who wondered, “What happens when kids are in the hospital on their birthday? Do they have a party?” No stranger to the experience, she spent her own 13th birthday in the hospital. In January 2014, the Foundation began supplying birthday party kids to children of all ages who had to spend their big day in a hospital bed. Mazda enlisted actress Minnie Driver to travel to Rhode Island to visit Stephanie, and help contribute to her cause. Together, they donated the large sum to the Confetti Foundation, to carry birthday joy to even more sick children. In a time when all eyes are on sales figures (of which Mazda is proud, having released strong November sales growth), it is important to be reminded that now, more than ever, it is important to leverage that success by giving back. Stop by and meet the friendly team at CardinaleWay Mazda in Corona, and be sure to take a test drive. Every test drive through January 4th earns one hour of Mazda’s time donated to local charities. And remember that with every new Mazda purchased during the Drive For Good event, Mazda will delegate $150 to the national or local charity of your choice.
