Mazda CX-9 SUV-Performance Features

Monday, April 18th, 2016

The latest Mazda CX-9 is deemed to be a high performing crossover SUV. It comes equipped with a four-cylinder, 2.5 liter turbocharged engine which delivers 310 pound ft. of torque and 227 horsepower. It is accompanied by a six-speed automated transmission.

The estimated for EPA fuel economy are still not disclosed. However, according to the automotive company, the brand new powerful engine would be able to return nearly 20% more fuel economy as compared to the earlier V6 engine. All the trim levels (Touring, Grand Touring and Sport) have a standard front-wheel drive, but buyers can also opt for an all-wheel drive.

The new turbocharged engine fitted in the Mazda CX-9 is a big change in the SUV model. It is the first time that Mazda has used turbo-charging for its famous Skyactiv family of engines. For mitigating turbo lag and providing a strong response, the automotive company has also installed something known as the ‘Dynamic Pressure Turbo’. It receives air through two distinct paths. When the SUV is being driven at low speeds, a valve shuts down the bigger one, sending air via a narrower path to the engine turbine. This increases the pressure and enables faster spooling of the turbo. Above nearly 1700 rpm, the car’s engine can produce sufficient pressure so that the turbine spins and the valve gets opened.

The approximate fuel economy figures for the car (not yet released) are 29 highway/21 city for front-wheel drive. You can visit the CardinaleWay Mazda Corona showroom to check out the latest Mazda vehicles.
