RX8 Long Term Review

Mazda RX8 Mazda Corona

One of the longest running models of the RX segment, The Mazda RX8 production span lasted seven years from 2004 to 2011. There were only slight modifications made in each of the successive generation of the RX8. The RX8 is renowned for its powerful rotary engine that is one-of-its-kind. The rotary motor is easier to handle in terms of maintenance, due to lesser number of moving parts as compared to the traditional piston engine. In addition to this, the compact size of the rotary engine, helps maintain a front rear weight balance of the car that leads to a more stable handling.

The RX8 is powered by a 1.3 liter rotary engine with a six speed manual transmission that pushes out a 232 horsepower. Although, with its simple rotary engine, the RX8 is not able to produce the powerful acceleration as per the standards of other sports cars, it is extremely useful for everyday driving.

As per the EPA gas mileage estimation of RX8, it can do a 16mpg city and a 22mpg highway which is ideally quite similar to the fuel economy of pickup trucks. In terms of handling, the rear wheel drive RX8, features a stable and sturdy structure that ensures a smoother and more sure-footed ride.

In a nutshell, the overall driving experience of this car of the yesteryears is enormously satisfying. Even with a few downsides in terms of mileage and fuel economy, the car’s sporty attitude makes it a quirky option for motor racing lovers.
