Robby Foley Wins Road America Race

Robby

Robby Foley (No. 63) won the 2016 Road America Race. The race happened during the Father’s Day weekend, which saw Mazda family and friends gathering at the iconic Road America to watch the race. The BFGoodrich Tires-sponsored Mazda MX-5 Cup saw Foley starting at the 10th position, taking the lead on the 12th lap, and finally winning the race. According to Foley, after starting at the 10th position, he patiently worked his way forward. He made the passes cautiously and smartly. The race was very much of a drifting game. It was the team’s (Mazda Motorsports/Atlanta Motorsports Group) first experience of drafting in the new car, with many cars. For Foley, this has been the second win of the season.

The 30-minutes of intense race action did not disappoint anybody. The race has been exciting for the racers, as well as for the audience.

Nathanial Sparks (No. 8 OOTSK/Sick Sideways Performance) came in the second position. After Mark Drennan (No. 50 TFB Performance/WindingRoadRacing.com) and John Dean II(No. 16 Sick Sideways Racing/Mazda Motorsports) were eliminated, Foley only had to deal with Sparks.

The race also saw Tim Barber (No. 22) setting the fastest lap (2.38.133, a new track record)). He finished 5th.

The 2016 season of MX-5 Cup features the 4th generation MX-5 Miata. Also, for the first time in the history of the Cup, Mazda has commissioned complete turnkey race cars, to be fair to all drivers. A $200,000 scholarship is what is waiting for the MX-5 Cup champion.
